Chapter 10 (or more?)

Today's Goal: READ HOMELESS BIRD (Seriously. We're going to read a lot today. I know you are anxious to see what happens to Koly. We will finish this book on Monday.)

Important note about Achieve in the HW section below.

Unit Goal: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.2
Determine a theme or central idea of a text and how it is conveyed through particular details; provide a summary of the text distinct from personal opinions or judgments.

Question to think about as we continue this book:
How do each of the characters in Homeless Bird find happiness? Many characters work towards happiness in different ways. How are they similar or different? Can you relate to any of their ways of finding happiness?

The Plan:
  1. Read independently
  2. Fill out the first row of your "Lit Thursday Progress Tracker" that I didn't get to you yesterday.
  3. Read Homeless Bird
  4. Read more Homeless Bird
  5. All the Homeless Birds (plus some discussion, probably)

Reminders/Homework:
  • Two Achieve articles due by Friday at midnight
    • One Teacher Choice: "Turning Workouts into Watts"
      OR "How Ideas Become Real"
      • IMPORTANT NOTE: I am fully aware that all of you are finding this one harder than normal. I will take this into account when I score it. Please don't panic.
      • Another Option: I have given you a second teacher choice if you feel strongly that you want to do another one to replace it.
      • Another important note: Achieve assignments have ALMOST NO IMPACT on your grade at this point in the semester if you are doing them each week. A low score one week IS OKAY. I PROMISE.
      • One more: They're going to get harder. If you are not opening the article and looking at it while you answering the questions so that you can go FIND the answers, you are setting yourself up for failure. Use your resources! I believe in you!
    • One student choice
  • It's taking me a while to get through your One-Pagers because I'm giving lots of feedback. You will get them back on Monday. You will have the opportunity to revise, as always! :D
